Callahan's Goose Creek Lodge - Private Riverfront with Kayaks and Canoes! | Cabin in Grayling
3 Bedroom Cabin in Grayling
If you desire to spend some time in nature in Northern Michigan while having very comfortable accommodations, a lot of privacy, and the ability to do some kayaking, canoeing, and/or hiking onsite, you have found the spot! This is truly an amazing vacation rental property as it is an incredible combination of being in nature while still staying in very beautiful, modern, and comfortable accommodations.
Please note that the lodge is located in the middle of a jack pine forest. Jack pines are particularly susceptible to forest fires, so please be very careful with fire!
Owner Reflections:
"When we first purchased Goose Creek Lodge and walked the property the forest was covered with ferns and vegetation. Most of the trees were of the "pine" variety with some maples and oaks mixed in. Dozens of the "pines" are 100'+. It was lush and green. It was the middle of the summer 2016.
We began completing the house that had been started in 2001. When winter came, we didn't spend much time here. There was a lot of snow! When spring came in 2017, it looked like a tornado had ripped through the property. There were hundreds (no exaggeration) of trees laying on the forest floor. My first thought was - what the heck happened here? I figured that I needed to start cleaning up the 'mess'. I talked to a friend of mine who is a botanist and he told me that that is the 'nature of a Jack Pine Forest'. They are short lived trees, very brittle and they will litter the landscape. And you either love them, or hate them.
I already had a strong connection to the property and decided that I was going to love them. A small shift in perspective made a big change in my life. I started to see things for what they are, not how I thought they should be. When walking through the woods I saw one of the centennial red pine trees with woodpecker holes all over the trunk. The top was still green but many of the branches were beginning to die. I sent a photo to my friend and said we've got a really big problem here. His response - again changed my life. He said 'It's not a problem if you are the woodpecker. The tree is doing exactly what God intended'."
